BotaniCOOLS

Recently gotten very involved in drawing flowers thanks to Maddie Flannigan (www.madalynne.com) who commissioned me to design a floral tattoo for her wrist. Its satisfying to focus in on something so small and beautiful and is largely an exercise in design -composition, interlocking stems, overlapping layers, colour, shape and dimension. Plenty of fantastic artists not only hopped between art and design but made the best designers themselves. For example, William Morris and also Charles Rennie Mackintosh (who did the most exquisite watercolour landscapes I know and is little known for more than his Art Deco designs). Didn’t have much experience drawing or painting flowers when I showed up in the US 2 years ago but in that time have done a ton initially for work and then pleasure. Not only got over my fear of them and all their little flappy bits but find them really COOL now!

Take an art course this Summer on the Greek island of Paros/ Join my Watercolour class!

Simultaneously develop your artistic craft and get the perfect break on a Greek island! This June and July The Aegean Center -an American run independent art school since 1969, will be running short courses in Figure drawing, Photography, Watercolor and Comics/Graphic Novels. I’ll be teaching the watercolour course in July which involves around 50% classroom and 50% painting excursions around the island’s beautiful olive groves, mountains, white chapels, harbours and ancient temples. Each day breakfast is provided and all excursion costs are included. All ages welcome and no experience is required, if you sign up for more than one course, you’ll receive a discount. It’s the perfect chance to learn a new skill or build on your existing portfolio with the help of professionals. When the course is over why not visit the cool surrounding islands of Santorini and Mykonos! Check the website for more deets www.aciap.org

P.S. I studied at this phenomenal school myself and it changed my life!
